Char Kway Teow

If you are following me on twitter, you’d know that I have been trying to live a healthier lifestyle. Don’t laugh okay, I even came up with a slogan for self-encouragement: “less sinful food, exercise more, and a better me!”

For someone who used to detest yogurt, I’m having it as part of my diet, together with cereals and milk. No chili, no deep fried stuff, and no sinful food! This is done concurrently with my daily routine of weights training, swimming and running.

Ever since I had the famous Hill Street Char Kway Teow, I am unsure if I should continue my hunt for the best char kway teow in Singapore. Well, I am supposed to have a healthy lifestyle, and char kway teow doesn’t exactly fits into the agenda.

All was well, until a recent trip to the Beach Road Army Market. My resistance literally broke down when I saw this plate of Char Kway Teow from 91 Fried Kway Teow Mee stall.

“Eh.. I am on a diet”

That means no sinful food you know? And Char Kway Teow happens to be right on the top of the gluttony list. Well, a few mouthful wouldn’t hurt, and look, there’s so much vegetables and there’s no pork and no lard! This is as healthy as a plate of char kway teow can get.

Okay I love vegetables, and I think it’s really good to have them together with Char Kway Teow. But, a plate of char kway teow without pork or lard is a bit hard for me to take. It lacked the fragrance of the fried lard and the brilliant of the lap cheong (wax sausage).

Well, it tastes good enough for me. For someone who hardly orders something so oily and ostensibly unhealthy.

I think the Veg takes away the oil too, or it seems to. ;)

I’ve tried the char kway teow from this stall. There is a different kind of savoury sweetness from the kway teow which is not from the sweet sauce. If I am not wrong they used stock as mentioned on their sign board. This contributes to a nice flavour.

As long as the kway teow tastes good, I dun mind if it is oily or if it does not contain lard.

lin: How can char kway teow not have pork and lard right? it’s totally WRONG! lol

superadrianme: it’s not bad, but i think somehow it lacked something

bakertan: haha i was too hungry and gobbled everything down, didn’t notice the savory sweetness! lol

    Hi,

You finally tried the highly raved Golden Mile Char Kuey Teow.I guess its not too awful or else you wont be able to finish the plate. It is a healthier type of char kuey teow.

These days, if I eat Char Kuey Teow, I even said I don’t want the cockles .. (I know many even go to the extent to ask for extra cockles).. just that recently I find cockles like not very healthy.

Leading a healthy lifestyle is good.. but most of the times when yummy food being served up infront of my eyes.. its just so hard to resist and I will end up eating them..

I am also trying to lead a healthier lifestyle but somehow I feel eating is so much easier than exercising.

Hope you can continue to live a healthier lifestyle ya and resist those yummy looking fried stuffs and exciting chilli dishes… (”,) Jiayou o ….

Was at Beach Road hawker centre again today. Couldn’t resist having a small plate of the char kway teow and a big chicken claypot!!!!

Absolutely delicious. Mixed the salted fish well with the rice, black sauce and a little oil after removing the chicken and ingredients and putting it on the plate provided.

Darn, I am hungry again talking about it!!
