The Cheesecake Cafe Singapore, East Coast road

The Cheesecake Cafe

I wasn’t kidding when I said that I have been hanging out in the East of Singapore. That’s probably good news for the folks who are living in the East as I will be blogging more about the best food places in the East of Singapore.

Stepping inside The Cheesecake Cafe at East Coast road near the Frankel Estate, I was caught off guard by two things: 1) the place is huge for a cafe that only offers cakes, finger food, and drinks, and 2) the Victorian-style interior design of the cafe.

Prior to this visit, I heard nasty rumors that there’s a no-sharing rule for The Cheesecake Cafe, but we didn’t have this problem when we were there. Somebody was disappointed that the popular Peach Jelly cheesecake was sold out, so we had the chocolate banana cake, tiramisu and the Vanilla Chocolate chip cheesecake instead.

Coming in the form of a triangular sliced cake, the Tiramisu ($7.20) at The Cheesecake Cafe surprised me with the unusual appearance. I’m accustomed to seeing tiramisu in cups or squares, and it took a while to get used to the sight of a sliced version.

The tiramisu was decent, with a strong espresso and vaguely weak liquor taste. It’s amazing how fast we could gobble down desserts, especially when it was directly after our dinner at The Garden Slug.

By normal circumstances, I’m not a big fan of the banana + chocolate combination. But The Cheesecake Cafe’s Chocolate Banana cake ($7.20) was acceptable as the banana taste wasn’t potent enough. The darkly chocolatey cake layer tinkered on the tongue, silently dissolving into a subtle banana composition.

I know this sounds kind of silly; it’s like having chicken rice without the rice, or chili crabs without the gravy, but I like the simplicity of the chocolate cake without the undue influence of the banana. It’s comforting to know that there’s banana present, yet it didn’t disrupt the taste of the cake.

Out of the three desserts that we had, my vote would go to the Vanilla Chocolate Chip cheesecake ($7.60). There wasn’t much of the vanilla, but I like the big, dotty chocolate chips that were on top. They melted seamlessly with the layer of thick and heavy cheesecake that had an uneven edge with a crunchy base.

All of us were charmed by her effortlessly, and it’s enough, really, to make me believe that happily-ever-after fairy tales ending do exist.

* * *

The Cheesecake Cafe is a great dessert cafe in the East of Singapore to chill out over a sliced of cake and drinks. Even though they do not have that many different types of cheesecake on the menu, the prices are reasonable and if you have not been here before, give it a shot.

The worst service from any establishment I have ever been too! Just look at Hungrygowhere.com and see the numerous complains about the service from the majority of people. It’s disgraceful, simply disgraceful!

I went there long time ago and thought there cheesecake was pretty rich and heavy. Tried the pb, oreo and chocolate cheesecake. Tastewise is was pretty good and I feel it was pretty expensive for a slice of cheesecake. But I must say its a nice place for friends to gather and chill

The Cheesecake Cafe is a Friday night tradition for my family. I find the place very cozy, the cakes are rich and satisfying plus the prices are equivalent to other dessert places. The chocolate truffle cake is not bad too but my family always makes sure we have the all american cheesecake on the table. Just for the pure cheesecakeyness of it all

Welcome to the sunny east side.

I went there once and that’s all. The service is good but I find the cakes there okay.

Wwwism: what a shame! they were very busy on the night that we went to, but we didn’t encounter any bad service

Angeline: considering that it’s a nice chill out place, i think 7 dollar per slice of cake is still acceptable!

Sue: Friday traditional night? As in you guys really go to The Cheesecake Cafe EVERY FRIDAY? wow! hahaha so the american cheesecake is the best cheesecake among their menu?

jacelyn: i never know that they have a no photography rule? anyway i wasn’t really in the mood that night to take photographs, so i took two three shots and kept the camera away :p

Jamie: i didn’t encounter any bad service, go with an open mind? let me know how it goes

vanillasugar: with all the bakes that you are whipping out in the kitchen, i’d totally switch place with you! yeah thanks dear, i had a great birthday : )

steanie: hahaha yea cakes are decent, it’s more like a good chill out place

Avoid at all cost! The individual servers might be nice, but the owners/managers are rude and obnoxious, don’t take my word, go to their Hungrygowhere.com reviews. Better just throw money away than to step into that hole.

I love their chocolate cheesecake! Reminds me of the time when I had a massive cheesecake marathon years ago.
